Frequently Asked Questions
Starting counselling can bring up many questions. If you want more information about my practice please do not hesitate to get in contact with me directly and I will do my best to answer. I also recommend a brief, free online consultation before we start, which is a great opportunity to find our more about how I work. Hopefully these FAQs help with some of the main queries.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes.

Do you offer sessions online?
Yes. If attending sessions in person is difficult, or you often work away I can offer a mix of in person and online. If you prefer to work exclusively online that is also possible.

How many sessions will I need?
I can work short term and long term depending on your circumstances and desires for therapy. If you've not experienced therapy before or are unsure, I generally recommend making a commitment to 12 weeks, as this offers a basis from which we can complete some really meaningful work. Shorter term work is also possible, it really is a collaborative approach and I welcome your own insight on what will work for you.

How often will we meet?
As a standard I offer appointments on a weekly basis. Where it suits your circumstances I will aim to offer you the same appointment time each week. I do keep appointments free to support those working shifts and can support bi weekly and fortnightly appointments where appropriate.

I'm not sure where to start?
Feelings of uncertainty, concerns about not knowing what to say or feelings that there is simply too much to say are all very normal. First sessions tend to be more directive, as I will need to explain how we might work safely and I am likely to be asking more questions than normal. Thereafter we can adapt to what you need. There is no right or wrong way to do therapy, if you bring yourself, we can find a way to connect and communicate, there is no obligation to know what to say or where to start.

Will you give me advice?
Counselling and Psychotherapy is not primarily about giving advice, and we are not trained to offer answers in a way a friend or teacher might. The aim will be to provide a space where we might be able to explore the issues you are struggling with and together find new perspectives and understanding, recognising the power and knowledge you have within. Where it is helpful and relevant I may share knowledge of approaches and techniques that can support your processes, but I won't make choices for you or tell you what to do.

Is your practice accessible?
Access to my practice and consulting room is step free and accessible to most wheelchair users, however, bathroom facilities are not.
Please contact me if you have specific accessibility needs or wish to know more.

Where can I park?
Free parking is available close by. Cranbrook has several free car parks, the closest to my practice are just across the road at The Tanyard or behind the church at Jockey Lane. These can be busy, however the main cark park for the co-op will always have spaces. The High Street also has free on-street parking for 1hr during business hours.
